85 days of live racing for the upcoming
83rd season at Delaware Park

Wilmington, Del., January 22, 2020 — Delaware Park has announced an 85-day meet for the upcoming 83rd season of live racing after receiving approval from the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission today.

The live racing season will open on Wednesday, May 27th and conclude on Saturday, October 31st. Live racing will be conducted Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays. Thursdays will be added June 18th through October 8th. First race daily post time is set for 1:15pm.

The highlight of the season is the filly and mare summer classic, the mile and a quarter Grade II Delaware Handicap on July 11th. The Grade III Delaware Oaks will be contested on July 4th.

Match Series 2020 Canceled

The highly popular and critically acclaimed Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred Championships Series (MATCH) has been canceled due to the Corona Virus shutdown and the ongoing uncertainty of renewed racing.  The series will return in 2021.

2020 Handicap Tournament Dates

Based on 60 entries.

Win, Place & Show. Participants must wager on minimum of 10 races. $10 minimum. Participant with highest total after last race will be the winner. $150 entry and $100 bankroll. 95% of the entry fee will be awarded as prizes for each contest. Distribution will be as follows: 1st prize – 50%, 2nd prize – 25%, 3rd prize – 15% and 4th prize – 10%.

Delaware Park Jockeys Share their Racing Adventures with Patients
at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children

Donning colorful jerseys and racing caps, Delaware Park jockeys brought the racing world alive for patients at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children yesterday. During the visit, each child received a collectible doll of the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, who won his first race in his career debut at Delaware Park; “A Day in the Life of a Horse of a Different Color” coloring book by Pierre Bellocq, authentic jockey racing goggles and other gifts from the Delaware Park family.

The jockeys’ visit was part of the national Childhood Cancer Awareness Month initiative organized by the Jockeys’ Guild. The visit to Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children was organized by the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission, Delaware Park, Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and the Delaware Jockeys’ Guild.
